Solitude Day 4 - Be Still and Know...God Brings Me Joy

    04.12.18 | by Joe Dascenzo

    Warm Up
It has been said that you cannot be angry and grateful at the same time. Gratitude is a choice. No one can make you be grateful. Joy is the same way. No one can steal your joy because it is not based on things being perfect. Your gratitude and joy could span quite a range of things in your life. And the list of things just might pile up! Think about the family, friends, and loved ones in your life. What are you grateful for about your job? What about your home or your physical health? Uncover some things that you are grateful for that bring you joy!

    Round 1
Put your phone in “airplane” mode.

    Round 2
    Re-read Psalm 46 slowly. Underline verse 4.
    Read Psalm 28:6-7 out loud.

    Round 3
Set a timer, sit in silence for 3 minutes and breathe slowly. Just listen.

    Round 4
Set a timer, sit quietly for another 3 minutes and think about what you are thankful for. Write down a list of at least 10 things.

    Burn Out
Pray: “God, Isaiah 33 declares that You are mighty. You are like a wide river of protection that none of my enemies can cross and no enemy ship can sail upon. Your safety and strength brings me joy. That joy overflows into gratitude for the blessings in my life. I’m sorry that I don’t let these things drive my thinking. Rather, I tend to dwell on what I don’t have or what disappoints me. But I have so much to be thankful for. You bring me joy like water flows down a river. It’s a rush if I stop and think about it. Help me notice the blessings in my life today…and choose joy!”

Leave your phone on “airplane” mode for as long as you dare today. You WILL miss calls.
